Scientist are aware and want to find a cure for the frogs.
I know that is a deep wild animal fact.
This is your every day common toad you find around your home in America. But what they do for us is something to write at home about! It's because they eat massive amounts of bugs.
Why did I feel moved to write about frogs? You love frogs, right? Any Kid I’ve ever talked with loves frogs. What’s not to like about them?
But kids, at this time in human history, frogs from all over the world are in trouble. You see, some kind of fungus has invaded their homes called, “chytrid.” And this fungus is having the amphibians leave the planet faster than any other species. So they have become a very endangered species indeed. many have gone extinct all ready. But, their are people who care that they don't.
From what I learned, the frog is facing shrinking habitats. That means their homes are getting smaller. And pesticides, and drugs that are tossed down the toilet goes into their homes. This is not helping the frog that lives on the water and land. I found a suggestion from this article I’ll share later.
Did you know you get less mosquito bites because the frog is around? They love that insect! They eat all kinds of insects. I'm sure you've seen a video of one catching a bug with their long tongue. And, they are sure fast! Could you imagine what your hometown would be like with out the frogs around your home? We would all have to wear bug suits.
So kids, the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is launching a great project to go capture as many frogs from Panama that don’t have the chytrid fungus. They want to capture 20 to 40 types of frogs.
This is just one zoo that has decided to help the frogs. Just imagine if a lot of zoos from around the world did the same thing? According to Kevin Zippel, director of Amphibian Ark, a branch of the World Conservation Union, which is supporting captive breeding programs. He said for $50,000 to $100,000 could save one entire species of frogs! That’s what I want to hear!

Amphibian Ark is trying to raise $50-million for the captive management of 500 species. "If each of the world's largest zoos just took on one species each, we'd be done," Mr. Zippel says. Doesn't that sound hopeful?
So how about asking your parents for some help in sending this blog to your local zoo. Ask them to breed some species of frogs. Contact your zoo and see about them breeding some frogs in your hometown?
A Panamanian golden frog on display at the Frog Rescue Exhibit at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. Many frog species have been decimated by a fungus.
In panama, they are considered very good luck to have one one of them around. I know people care that these four legged webbed species are here for generations to come. Once again, its man that is having to intervene for another species to survive. Thanks for reading,
Scott Bright
Oh, one little added things we can do to help frogs.n
• Use organic fertilizer and weed killers.
• Preserve wetland habitats.
• Acquire pets from reputable captive breeding programs that aren't collecting from the wild, and don't release pets into the wild.
